It
has been almost three months since learning that our home did indeed
have Chinese Drywall installed, the dreaded imported defective
drywall that unleashes a corrosive chemical damaging copper wiring
and certain types of metals, not to mention toxic gaseous fumes that
effect health. Our home was filled with building
representatives and a couple of attorneys on April 1st and what we
were hoping to hear was "April Fools!" after the "I'm sorry, we'll
make it right". Stress would likely take over the well of
emotions from "this is a nightmare", to "how could this could have happened".
Then there are the uh-huh moments at the realization of headaches,
bloody noses, eye irritations, lack of energy, and loss of hair that
appeared to come on all of a sudden which were not the result from
an onset of aging or imagination as once perceived. The health
effects due to the inhalant of the gasses are all too real and all
too common in both adults and children. And what seemed to be
the perfect dream home for a number of us has turned into a
nightmare. Certainly, we are among the few who have a builder
willing to dispose and replace the Chinese Drywall and while very
appreciative of that fact, the indisposition it places on a family
is overwhelming. Suddenly you find yourself in a whirlwind of
agreements and disagreements as to how things should be
reconstructed and because this is so new, a protocol is only created
by the learning curve and involuntary guinea pigs must adjust
to the ever changing course while remaining patient in the midst of
moving to another environment and maintaining a large mortgage on
inhabitable property. Because we do have a builder stepping up
to the plate, the scale that could reach a ten in disaster is at
least a seven, but if one more person tells us we are lucky, I'm
going to throw the guts of our metal frame through their roof!|
To commemorate the signing of the County Charter on April 30 and the creation of the county on July 1, 1909, Palm Beach County is holding a Centennial Celebration all year long in 2009. The county was created from Dade County, which at the time, stretched from the St. Lucie River to the tip of the Florida peninsula. Even with the creation of Broward, Martin and Okeechobee counties from the county’s land area, it remains one of the largest county east of the Mississippi. Some objectives of the Centennial Celebration include: highlighting the rich history of the county, showcasing the county’s cultural and ethnic diversity and educating the community about the county’s history. Events are being planned in most of the 38 municipalities of Palm Beach County, and other organizations are adopting the Centennial theme to their already established events.
A Centennial Web site has also been created. The Web site includes an official event calendar, web links and a listing of centennial partners. The site will also host photos from the many community events, contests and projects. Mini Choco-Raspberry Pies
I made this recipe and it came out just perfect. The little pastry of chocolates are eye pleasing as well as delicious and simple to make.
Ingredients:
1. Place package of chips, marshmallows, preserves, and milk and microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes or until chocolate is softened and mixture is melted and smooth when stirred; cool completely. 2. Beat whipping cream in small bowl until stiff; fold into chocolate mixture. Pipe into your baked fillo shells. Cover; refrigerate 4 hours until firm. 3. Garnish top of fillo pies with a raspberry. |

addition to special events, there will be special
Centennial exhibits at the Palm Beach County History
Museum in the 1916 courthouse, education curriculum
for elementary students, and many Palm Beach County
publications will be featuring Centennial facts and
information.

tree will be your new favorite. The flowers bloom almost year
round and are large enough to make this tree a special ornamental
tree in your yard. The sweetness permeates the air much more
than the gardenia. Your neighbors will be able to sense the
wonderful traveling aroma. The tree is considered a small tree
and reaches 15 to 20 feet and grows as a weeping cone. The
yellow silky flowers are approximately 6 inches in diameter.
